Sunday, March 16, 2008 Notes from today's basemap explorationI spent some time today running around with the basemap for the JCCC sprint map. The plan is to begin fieldchecking next weekend and use the map at next December's pre-Trot event. A few notes I made after exploring...Need to re-read the IOF sprint map standards; See the photo below of one of the campus artworks. There is a running man on top of one of the buildings (if only he had a map in his hand). Basketball With the NCAA tournament starting later this week, it is worth taking a look at Pomeroy's rankings (and poking around the entire site for lots of good data). You should talk to JCCC about allowing you to put a map in his hand for the occasion of Kansas Champs, errr... I mean the Pre-Possum.

Looking at Pomeroy (that's where I went first after the brackets)... Of the #1 seeds, KU has signifcantly the easiest 8/9 draw with Pomeroy ratings of 53 and 66 for UNLV and Kent State. Clemson is a very strong #5 seed, but Vanderbilt is a very weak #4 seed (they are weaker than ALL 5's, 6's and 7's!). Wisconsin is the toughest #2 (Pomeroy #4) and Georgetown is the toughest #3 (Pomeroy #8). So... it looks like two easy games, and two hard games to make the Final Four. Oh, if we make it to Detroit and play Wisconsin... we're in Big 10 country! Watch out! |
