More World Ranking O' Trivia
The United States has 249 names listed in the IOF World Ranking list.
I thought it'd be interesting to see which nations are most similar to the U.S. in terms of the number of names on the ranking list. So, here is a list of the nations within +/- 100 names of the United States:
Germany (341) Hungary (329) Denmark (299) U.S. (249) Italy (226) Lithuania (201) Australia (199) Bulgaria (188) Latvia (163) Portugal (156) Spain (155) Estonia (155) Austria (154)
Yikes - Canada not even within 100 runners of USA? A result of our 2007 WRE's being in a relatively remote (orienteering-wise) area in the past year, perhaps. Should improve for 2008.
I believe the numbers Mike is giving include everyone currently associated with each country who has run a WRE since the WRE system began. So the location of COC's last year could only have made a difference if it prevented someone Canadian from showing up who would have run a WRE for the first time in their lives if one had been held elsewhere. That can't be very many people.
BTW, the US number should be one higher and the Canadian one one lower since the APOC 2006 organisers entered Dan into the system as a Canadian to match my club affiliation despite being told she was American.
