Hill training
Both the WOC and the JWOC will be in very hilly terrain. Presumably, most top elite orienteers are putting in lots of hill training to get themselves ready.
I wonder if all of the extra hill training will pay dividends even in normal terrain?
My feeling, though I haven't really tested it systematically, is that you can't really train hills too much. The strength that you gain from running up and down hills transfers to most terrain, even if the terrain is flat. I suppose training lots of hills slows you down on flat, smooth surfaces. But flat, smooth surfaces make up so little of an O' course that the loss is trivial.
